The Stamping Process

Every stamped part starts as flat sheet metal, either from coils or pre-cut blanks. GSM feeds that material through a stamping press, where custom-engineered dies shape it using punching, bending, coining, blanking, embossing, or flanging — often in a single continuous pass.

For high-volume programs, GSM runs progressive die stamping: a coil of sheet metal advances through one die with multiple stations, and the part moves from station to station while still attached to the carrier strip, until a finished part exits at the end of the line. Transfer die stamping works differently — the part separates from the strip at the first station and is mechanically transferred between independent die stations, which suits larger or more complex geometries.

GSM stamps carbon steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, aluminum alloys, copper, and self-healing zinc/aluminum/magnesium (ZAM) material, in thicknesses from 1/4″ to 1/2″ and up to Grade 80. Standard tolerance is ±0.10mm, with precision tolerance of ±0.05mm achievable on critical dimensions, depending on material type, part geometry, and die design.
